H.R. 2669 as Amended; College Cost Reduction Act of 2007

The Senate approved this bill to increase the amount of aid to college students. The bill would increase the amount of aid for Pell grant recipients by redirecting $18 billion that currently subsidizes banks that issue government loans. The maximum Pell grant award would rise from $4,310 to $5,400 by 2011. The bill also provides loan forgiveness after ten years for graduates who go into public-service professions.
