Vietnamese-Americans raise homeland’s flag at Penn Valley college

Vietnamese-American residents of Kansas City applauded this morning as MCC-Penn Valley administrators took down the Vietnam flag that had hung in the Campus Center lobby.

The Vietnamese-Americans were offended by the red flag with the yellow star, which was adopted by the Communist rulers of Vietnam.

A Vietnamese-American man then hung the pre-Communist Vietnamese flag, a yellow flag with three red stripes, in its place.

A crowd of Vietnamese Americans stood, clapped and sang, happy to have a flag they say stands for freedom and democracy installed at the community college.
